About Northcell

Northcell is a small independent software studio based in Bengaluru, India. We build Android apps that are deliberately narrow in scope and deliberately offline.

Northcell is the app-publishing brand of Upamana Labs, a registered business in Karnataka, India. Everything you see here — the puzzles, the calculators, this website — is made by a tiny team that cares more about an app doing one thing cleanly than about doing everything.

What we make

Two kinds of apps, so far. The first is logic puzzles: self-contained games you can pick up for five minutes or an hour, generated and solved entirely on your device. The second is everyday calculators aimed at Indian users — loans, taxes, savings — where getting the arithmetic exactly right matters more than a flashy interface.

What ties them together is a refusal to depend on the internet. A Kakuro puzzle does not need a server to check your answer, and a loan EMI does not need one to be calculated. So ours don't use one.

How we work

A few principles guide every release:

• Offline by default. Each app runs fully in aeroplane mode. The only time an app touches the network is to fetch an ad or to process the one-time purchase that removes ads.
• Your data stays yours. There is no Northcell account and no Northcell server. Whatever you type, solve, or save lives on your phone. The only information that leaves your device is what Google's advertising SDK collects to show ads, which each app's privacy policy describes in full.
• Honest monetisation. Apps are free with a single, modest banner ad. If you'd rather not see it, one small payment removes ads permanently — no subscription, no recurring charge, no upsell.
• Correctness first. Every puzzle we ship is machine-checked to have exactly one valid solution. Every financial calculation is tested against an independent reference so the numbers can be trusted.
